For most accurate results, measure in the morning wearing a non-padded bra. Sister sizes are alternates with the same cup volume — try both if the calculator size feels off.

What is a bra size calculator?

A bra size calculator measures your under-bust (band) and bust (cup) to determine your true bra size. The modern method, used here, divides the bust-minus-band difference into one-inch cup increments — giving an accurate band, cup letter, and two sister sizes. It is more reliable than the outdated "+4 inches" rule still used by some retailers.

How-to guide

How to Measure Your Bra Size

Two measurements with a soft tape — that's it. Wear a non-padded bra so the band sits flat, and stand naturally.

1

Measure under-bust

SNUG · PARALLEL TO FLOOR

Wrap the tape firmly under your bust where the bra band would sit. Pull snug but not tight enough to leave a mark. Round to the nearest whole inch (or centimetre).

2

Measure bust

LOOSE · NIPPLE LINE

Wrap loosely around the fullest part of your bust, usually across the nipple line. Stand naturally, breathe out, do not compress. Round to the nearest whole inch.

3

Read your size

Your size: 34C Sister: 32D · 36B

Enter both measurements into the calculator above. The result shows your band size, cup letter, and two sister-size alternatives — all in your chosen sizing system.

Same volume, different band

What Are Sister Sizes?

Sister sizes share the same cup volume on a different band. If the calculator's result feels slightly off, your sister size is almost always the fix — not a different cup letter.

Troubleshooting

5 Common Bra Fit Problems (and Fixes)

Most fit problems are not a wrong size — they're a wrong sister size, wrong cup style, or wrong brand for your shape.

Band rides up the back

Cause: Band is too loose — the band, not the straps, supports the bra.

Fix: Sister-size DOWN: smaller band, larger cup (e.g. 36C → 34D).

Cup gapping at the top

Cause: Cup is too big OR breast shape doesn't match cup style (projected vs shallow).

Fix: Sister-size DOWN one cup, or try a more contoured cup style.

Underwire pokes or sits on tissue

Cause: Wire is too narrow for your root width, or the cup is too small.

Fix: Go up one cup size, or switch to a brand with wider wires (Freya, Panache).

Straps slipping off shoulders

Cause: Band too loose, OR shoulders are narrow / sloped.

Fix: Tighten band one hook smaller, sister-size down, or look for U-back / racer styles.

Quad-boob (cups overflow at top)

Cause: Cup is too small.

Fix: Sister-size UP: larger cup, smaller band (e.g. 34C → 34D).

Why we don't use +4

Why most bra calculators give the wrong size

Many older calculators tell you to add 4 inches to your under-bust to get your band. This rule comes from the 1930s, when bra fabric had no stretch and bands needed extra slack to breathe.

Modern bras use elastic blends. Adding 4 inches to your measurement gives a band that's 2–4 sizes too loose — which then makes the cup spec wrong, makes the bra ride up, and pushes weight onto your shoulders.

The result: most women are wearing the wrong size. Studies estimate 70–80% of women wear ill-fitting bras, and the +4 method is a major cause. Our calculator uses your actual under-bust measurement — the method bra fitters and lingerie professionals use today.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

12 most-asked questions about bra sizing, measuring, and fit.

How do I measure my bra size accurately?
Wear a non-padded, well-fitting bra (or none). Measure your under-bust snug and parallel to the floor — this is your band. Then measure around the fullest part of your bust, loose. Enter both into the calculator above. The calculator handles the rest.
What does the "+" or "-" sister size mean?
Sister sizes share the same cup volume but use a different band. If your band feels tight, go up one band and down one cup (e.g. 32C → 34B). If loose, do the opposite (32C → 30D). Many fit issues are solved by a sister size, not a different cup.
Why does the same size feel different across brands?
Brands cut bands and cups differently. A Victoria's Secret 34B is not identical to an Aerie 34B. Use our brand-specific guides for measurements that account for those differences.
Should I use the old "+4 inches" measuring method?
No — the +4 method is from the 1930s and gives bands that are several inches too loose for modern stretch fabrics. Most women wearing the wrong size are using it. Our calculator uses the modern, no-plus-four method.
Is this calculator accurate for plus-size or D+ cups?
Yes. The calculator handles bands 28–46 and cups AA through K. For plus-size fits, confirm with the sister-size pair we suggest, and check our D+ fitting guide.
Can I measure myself, or do I need a fitter?
You can measure yourself accurately with a soft tape measure and a mirror. Wear a non-padded bra so the band sits flat. The calculator gets you to within one sister size of a professional fitting.
How often should I re-measure?
Re-measure every 6–12 months, or after any weight change of 5+ kg, pregnancy, weaning, hormonal contraceptive change, or noticeable fit issues with current bras.
What if I'm between two band sizes?
Always size DOWN to the smaller band — bands stretch with wear. If the smaller band feels tight after a week, sister-size up (smaller cup, larger band) instead of just buying a bigger band.
Do bra sizes run the same in the US and UK?
Bands match (32 = 32, 34 = 34). Cups diverge above DD: US uses DD, DDD, G, H — UK uses DD, E, F, FF, G. A US 34DDD ≈ UK 34F.
Why is band size more important than cup size?
The band carries 80% of the bra's support. A loose band means droop, riding up, and shoulder pain. The cup just contains the breast — get the band right first, then dial in the cup.
Is the bra size calculator free? Do I need to sign up?
Completely free. No signup, no email, no tracking. Your measurements stay in your browser — we don't store them.
What sizes do the calculator results cover?
Bands from 28 to 46 (US/UK), 60 to 110 cm (EU), and cups AA through K. We also output two sister sizes for every result.
